得意分野はデータ解析
まず、人間社会におけるAIの役割です。AIはデータ解析や予測などの分野で高い能力を発揮します。例えば、ビジネス分野では、AIが市場動向や顧客の行動パターンを解析し、効果的なマーケティング戦略を立てることができます。これにより、企業は効率的な意思決定を行い、競争力を向上させることができます。また、AIを活用した自動運転技術は、交通事故のリスクを減らし、交通流の効率化にも貢献します。
教育分野でもAIは大きな役割を果たしています。AIは個々の学習スタイルや能力に合わせて教材を提供し、学習の効果を最大化することができます。また、AIは教師の負担を軽減し、個別のサポートを必要とする生徒にも対応できます。これにより、教育の格差を減らし、より公平な教育環境を実現することができるでしょう。
戦前の日本は、寺子屋や私塾などが江戸で10000件以上もあったと言われており、一人ひとりの習熟度に応じた教育が行われており、識字率の高さは世界一であったこともよく知られています。戦後になり、「金太郎飴方式」とも呼ばれる、個々人の発達段階などは一切関係なく、年齢だけで学年を一まとめにし、教師から生徒への「一方的な教育」が問題があるとして長年取り上げられてきましたが、AIの登場により改善が見込まれます。
自然環境分野への貢献
AIの貢献は自然環境においても見逃せません。環境保護やエネルギー効率の向上にAIは大きな力を発揮します。例えば、環境モニタリングでは、AIがデータを解析し、環境汚染の早期警告や生態系の変化を把握することができます。また、エネルギー分野では、AIがエネルギー使用量の最適化や再生可能エネルギーの効率的な利用を支援します。これにより、地球温暖化や資源の枯渇といった課題に対処することが期待できます。
AIが抱える課題とは？
しかし、万能に見えるAIですが、人間社会や自然環境に果たす役割には様々な課題も存在します。一つは、倫理的な問題です。AIが人間の判断を代替することは可能ですが、その判断が常に倫理的に適切なものであるとは限りません。また、AIの導入によって、一部の職業が自動化されることによる雇用の減少や、個人情報の保護などのプライバシーの懸念も存在します。
有名なのは、トロッコ問題をどう解決するか、などです。補足までに、トロッコ問題とは、ブレーキが効かなくなったトロッコがレールの上を走ってきました。このままいくと、５人の作業員をはねてしまいます。作業音がうるさく、叫んでも誰にも声は届きません。スマホも無線も持っていません。幸い、あなたはレールを切り替えるポイントの前に立っています。ポイントを切り替えれば、５人の命を救うことができます。しかし、よく見ると、ポイントを切り替えた先に、休憩中の作業員が寝そべっています。もちろん、声をかけても届きませんし、スピード的に間に合いません。１人の命を犠牲にして、５人を救うことが正解でもありませんし、その逆も然りです。しかしながら、AIでは、予めそういった事態を想定し、事前にプログラムしておく必要があります。トロッコ問題と似たような状況は世の中に溢れており、例えば、車の自動運転で、信号を無視して飛び出してきた子供がいたとします。ブレーキをかけたが間に合わず、かつ左に避けるしかない場合で、左には信号を守って横断している家族連れがいます。その場合、車は、避けるのか、避けないのか、どうするかの回答を、誰かがプログラムとして組み込まないといけません。倫理的な問題を抱えています。あなたなら、どうやってこの問題を解決したら良いと思いますか。
このようなこともあり、AIの導入にあたっては、社会科学者や倫理学者といった専門家の助言や規制が重要です。AIの開発・利用においては、倫理的なガイドラインを設けることや、透明性や公正性を確保するための仕組みを整備することが求められます。また、AIの利益を広く共有するために、教育やトレーニングの機会を提供することも重要です。
AIがもたらす効率化や効果的な意思決定によって、社会の構造や関係性が変化する可能性が十分にあります。社会科学者レベルではなくても、個人の市民レベルにおいて、もしかしたら、同じような状況が発生することがあります。普段から、自分ごととして、倫理的に考える癖をつけておくことは有意義なことです。

Moreover, AI-driven autonomous driving technology reduces the risk of traffic accidents and contributes to more efficient traffic flow.
In the education sector, AI plays a significant role as well. AI can provide personalized learning materials tailored to individual learning styles and abilities, maximizing the effectiveness of education. In pre-war Japan, it is well-known that there were over 10,000 “Terakoya” and private schools in Edo, offering education tailored to the proficiency of each student, resulting in the world’s highest literacy rate. However, after the war, a problematic “Kintarou-ame” approach emerged, which involved grouping students solely based on their age, neglecting their developmental stages. AI’s introduction is expected to bring improvements in this regard.
Contributions to the Natural Environment
AI’s contributions are also significant in the realm of the natural environment. AI plays a crucial role in environmental conservation and improving energy efficiency. For example, in environmental monitoring, AI can analyze data to provide early warnings of environmental pollution and assess changes in ecosystems. In the energy sector, AI supports optimizing energy consumption and efficient utilization of renewable energy. This offers hope in addressing challenges like global warming and resource depletion.
Challenges Faced by AI
However, despite its seemingly omnipotent capabilities, AI comes with various challenges concerning its role in human society and the environment. One of these challenges is ethical issues. While AI can replace human decision-making, its judgments may not always be ethically sound. Furthermore, the introduction of AI may lead to job losses in some industries due to automation, and concerns about privacy and data protection also arise.
A well-known example is the trolley problem. To provide additional context, the trolley problem involves an out-of-control trolley running on a track, heading towards five workers who will be hit and killed. There is a lever that can switch the trolley to another track, saving those five workers, but there is a single worker lying on that alternate track who would be sacrificed. The ethical dilemma arises in determining whether sacrificing one life to save five is the right course of action. Similar situations, like when programming self-driving cars, raise ethical concerns as well. For instance, when faced with a child running into the road, the car’s AI must make a decision on whether to swerve and hit a family on the sidewalk or continue straight and hit the child. These situations require ethical considerations and the need for someone to program such decisions into AI systems.
Given these complexities, the input and regulation of experts such as social scientists and ethicists are vital in the development and utilization of AI. Establishing ethical guidelines for AI development and ensuring transparency and fairness in its implementation are essential. Additionally, providing education and training opportunities to share the benefits of AI widely is crucial.
AI’s potential for efficiency and effective decision-making has the power to bring about changes in social structures and relationships. Even on an individual citizen level, similar situations may arise. Thus, cultivating the habit of ethical thinking in everyday life is meaningful.
